Abi Burton is back in a Red Roses training jersey with her sights firmly on her next XVs cap after the most incredible return to the GB7s team in the summer & an Olympic cycle that now seems like someone else’s life, to her. She joins Elma & Meg to relive her journey from the pitch, to a hospital bed, & back again. She touches on how her muscle mass saved her life, how much she appreciates her body now and how she’ll never get enough of necking pints of gravy fr fun. Elma’s headed South West to meet the busiest woman in the PWR: nail technician to the stars, Exeter Chiefs Captain & Exeter Uni Head Coach, Poppy Leitch & her team mate, Canada’s Alex Tessier AKA Tess. They discuss Tess’ World Rugby Player of the Year nomination & the nails that went with her outfit in Monaco (of course), as well as the legacy of Jo Yapp in those parts & the programme’s transformation over the last few years under Poppy’s leadership. The trio are then joined by two Exeter Uni’s players, who are also mentees on GSR & Vodafone’s EmpowHER programme, Eva Stirrett & Lilly Plowman, to hear all about how much they believe Poppy is the Messiah. The girls have been back in England camp this week & the Red Roses’ Vice Captaincy has been bestowed upon our Meg, so Scaz, Mo & Elma hash through what it takes to be a leader in the Red Roses. True to form, Meg is open and honest about leadership, as well as the year she’s had - losing both her mum and dad in quick succession. She proudly tells the girls about the people they both were, as well as the struggles her mum had with alcoholism, in the hope that others affected by addiction don’t feel so alone. She’s one in a million, our Meg.
